As prophesied, Jesus came to heal the brokenhearted and set the bruised free
Good morning Heavenly Father. I welcome the new day with you. Looking out the window I see evidence of majesty, of your creation. Flowers. Many kinds of flowers. Many, many flowers of each kind. Trees. Many different trees. Bushes. Grass. Clouds. Tree leaves swaying in the breeze. All this you created just for us! Thank you! And thank you for the scripture for today’s prayer for your daughter Lindsey:
And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read. And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him. And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears. (Luke 4:16-21)
Lord, I’m glad to be able to be here again … as usual … to sit with you. I am happy to come on behalf of Lindsey each day. And today’s scripture is quite interesting. Jesus read out of the Old Testament and proclaimed that it was a prophecy, and that he was fulfilling it! And it is quite a prophecy! Look at what he says he will do:
- Preach the Gospel, the Good News to the poor
- Heal the brokenhearted
- Proclaim deliverance and freedom to the captives
- Recovery of sight for the blind
- Freedom and liberty for the bruised and oppressed
- Announce, proclaim and preach the acceptable year of the Lord, the time of God’s favor
Lindsey, I know that you are following Jesus. You are clinging to him each and every day no matter where you are. Perhaps he would like to work through you. Perhaps you can be a way for the brokenhearted to be healed. Perhaps the oppressed can see hope. And perhaps you can show how God’s favor can be had right now, this day, this very hour. Just perhaps. And it is that “perhaps” that I pray over you today. I pray that God would show you if any of these “perhaps” are for you and for your journey. And then I pray that God would continue to fill you with his joy which can be your strength. I pray that he would continue to give you the courage to actually DO what he is asking of you. And finally I pray that he would give you the words. I pray that he would give you the words that others need to hear. And we will give all the glory to him. The glory all goes to God. I pray this all in the name and authority of Christ Jesus, King of kings. Amen (more…)
Blessing: Rejoice, Be Filled and Leap For Joy
Lindsey, the next nine blessings are straight from Jesus’s Sermon on the Mount! This first one I take from Luke’s account, the rest I take from Matthew’s account. Today I have several blessings for you. Yes! Be blessed, Lindsey, when you are poor. Be blessed Lindsey when you hunger. Be blessed when you weep for you shall laugh. Be blessed when those around you mock you, insult you, hate you or exclude you because you are following Jesus. In those times rejoice and leap for joy! Your reward is great in heaven Lindsey.
Heavenly Father, good morning. Thank you for another day with you. Thank you for being with me now and throughout the night. Thank you for guiding me each day. And thank you for the scripture where Jesus said to those who were following him:
And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God. Blessed are ye that hunger now: for ye shall be filled. Blessed are ye that weep now: for ye shall laugh. Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man’s sake. Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets. (Luke 6:20-23)
Lord, it’s me again. I so look forward to coming here to sit with you on behalf of your daughter you love. And today it seems like there is another special blessing that you have for her. And so, Lindsey, this day I say that you are blessed. God blesses you when you are poor, hungry or crying for you shall laugh, rejoice and jump for joy. When you see people insulting you or mocking you or excluding you because you publicly tell about Jesus and your God, remember that is also how the ancient prophets were treated. Look up at those times and consider your coming reward in heaven. I bless you in the name of Jesus, who we will give all the glory to. The glory is all yours Lord. Amen (more…)
