Heavenly Father, good morning. Thank you for the bright sunshine this morning. Thank you for the crisp cool morning that includes a bit of warmth from the sun already! And thank you for the scripture to use for today’s prayer for your daughter Lindsey:
And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. (Luke 4:6-8)
Lord, I’m here to lift up your daughter Lindsey. You have greatly gifted her with skill and talent in music and performing. She is using those skills and talents wisely Lord and you have shown her favor wherever she goes. Thank you for this Lord. We both thank you for this! The initial scripture for this prayer refers to our need to worship only the Lord, and so we do. We worship you Lord. However, your daughter seems to be in a peculiar situation. Her performances are so good that many people appear to be worshiping her! This is not how you want it, Lord, as seen by this scripture that came to mind just now:
And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him. But Peter took him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man. (Acts 10:25-26)
So, Lindsey, perhaps my prayer is in two parts this day. For next I pray that the Lord would help you see when others are misplacing their worship by worshiping you, who are only a woman, merely a human being like them. I pray that the Lord would help you to find ways to pull them up and redirect them to worshiping the one true God rather than a great violinist. I pray that you will find ways to point to Jesus when they look upon you in awe and worship. I don’t know how you can do this. But I trust that God knows, and that God will share this with you. I pray that he would let you know clearly and that you would hear him clearly and see what you can do. And I pray that you would then have the courage to actually do what he is asking of you. And we both will give all the glory and worship to God and only to God. All the glory is his. I pray this all in the name of Christ Jesus, King of kings. Amen
GNT:
“I will give you all this power and all this wealth,” the Devil told him. “It has all been handed over to me, and I can give it to anyone I choose. All this will be yours, then, if you worship me.”
Jesus answered, “The scripture says, ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve only him!’”
AND
As Peter was about to go in, Cornelius met him, fell at his feet, and bowed down before him. But Peter made him rise. “Stand up,” he said, “I myself am only a man.”
NLT:
“I will give you the glory of these kingdoms and authority over them,” the devil said, “because they are mine to give to anyone I please. I will give it all to you if you will worship me.”
Jesus replied,“The Scriptures say,
‘You must worship the Lord your God
and serve only him.’”
AND
As Peter entered his home, Cornelius fell at his feet and worshiped him.26 But Peter pulled him up and said, “Stand up! I’m a human being just like you!”
