Worship and Serve only God
Heavenly Father, good morning. Thank you for the bright sunshine this morning. Thank you for the crisp cool morning that includes a bit of warmth from the sun already! And thank you for the scripture to use for today’s prayer for your daughter Lindsey:
And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. (Luke 4:6-8)
Lord, I’m here to lift up your daughter Lindsey. You have greatly gifted her with skill and talent in music and performing. She is using those skills and talents wisely Lord and you have shown her favor wherever she goes. Thank you for this Lord. We both thank you for this! The initial scripture for this prayer refers to our need to worship only the Lord, and so we do. We worship you Lord. However, your daughter seems to be in a peculiar situation. Her performances are so good that many people appear to be worshiping her! This is not how you want it, Lord, as seen by this scripture that came to mind just now:
And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him. But Peter took him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man. (Acts 10:25-26)
So, Lindsey, perhaps my prayer is in two parts this day. For next I pray that the Lord would help you see when others are misplacing their worship by worshiping you, who are only a woman, merely a human being like them. I pray that the Lord would help you to find ways to pull them up and redirect them to worshiping the one true God rather than a great violinist. I pray that you will find ways to point to Jesus when they look upon you in awe and worship. I don’t know how you can do this. But I trust that God knows, and that God will share this with you. I pray that he would let you know clearly and that you would hear him clearly and see what you can do. And I pray that you would then have the courage to actually do what he is asking of you. And we both will give all the glory and worship to God and only to God. All the glory is his. I pray this all in the name of Christ Jesus, King of kings. Amen (more…)
Don’t just love those who love you… love those who do not love you!
Heavenly Father good morning. Thank you for a new day. Thank you for a new day with you. Thank you for the new day from you as you hold all things together. And thank you for the scripture for today’s prayer for your daughter Lindsey:
[Jesus said:] For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so? Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. (Matthew 5:46-48)
Lord, I am here again. Here to sit with you on behalf of your daughter you love. Lindsey, today the scripture for the prayer is all about love. However, it focuses not on reminding you to love others, but on who it is that you are choosing to love. And that is hard. And so Lord, I ask that you be the strength for Lindsey today. I ask that you be her guide. Help her to be loving even to those who appear to be against her. For what reward is there in loving only the people who are so fondly loving you? Perhaps this is another big prayer today, since it appears that there are literally thousands who are loudly and publicly proclaiming how much they love you Lindsey (and likewise there are the detractors as well). And so my big prayer is that the Lord would enlarge your heart and keep it filled with his joy so that you could love not only those who say they love you, but also those who don’t. I pray that the Lord would guard your heart, that he would keep it from breaking and at the same time add more love to it right then. And we will give the glory to God. All the glory is his. I pray this big prayer in the name of Christ Jesus, King of kings. Amen (more…)
You can have an Abundant Life!
Good Morning Heavenly Father. Thank you for teeth. Thank you for my good chewing teeth. Thank you for how well teeth work! And thank you for the scripture for your daughter Lindsey for today’s prayer:
[Jesus said:] I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. (John 10:9-10)
Lord, I’m here. It’s me. I am ready to lift up your daughter you love. Lindsey, today I pray that the Lord would give you an abundant life, just as he promised. All you need to do is open the door to Jesus and enter in. You can come and go in peace. I pray that each day you would look for that door that is Jesus and that each day Jesus would in turn give you a more abundant life. And we will give all the glory to him. The glory all goes to him. I pray this in the name of Christ Jesus, King of kings. Amen (more…)
Give … and it then will be given to you in the same measure!
Heavenly Father good morning. Thank you for cereal. Thank you for the many kinds. Thank you that we can eat cereal any time day or night. And thank you for the scripture for today’s prayer for Lindsey (who also really really likes cereal):
[Jesus said:] But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil. Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful. Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven: Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again. (Luke 6:35-38)
Lord, I’m here as usual to begin another day’s prayer for your daughter you love. Lindsey, today I pray another scripture over you regarding giving. This time Jesus is encouraging us to be generous, for in the same measure that we are generous, that same measure will be used when he is gracious to us. So I pray that God would keep your heart soft. I pray that God would fill you so full of joy that you can only think about how to respond to him. I pray that being generous would continue to be simply a way of life for you. And I pray that those around you would see this in you as you are a role model for them. And we will give all the glory to God. The glory is all his. I pray this in the name of Christ Jesus, King of kings. Amen (more…)
Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness
Mammon: An Aramaic word meaning “riches,” personified in Matt. 6:24; Luke 16:9, 11, 13. [from Bible Dictionary]
Good Morning Heavenly Father. Thank you for thunder and lightning (and how they both are actually the same thing) for it allows us just a glimpse of how power can be unleashed in the world. Thank you for the display of lightning that goes across the sky in an instant and a blink of an eye later is completely gone. Thank you for the LOUD crack of thunder to remind us of the power that was behind that very brief display in the sky. And thank you for the scripture for today’s prayer for your daughter Lindsey:
[Jesus said:] No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. (Matthew 6:24-34)
Lord, I’m here again to pray for your daughter. I enjoy my time here and the chance to lift her up to you. Lindsey, today is a day to remember that all you need to do is to seek FIRST the kingdom of God. If you do that God has said not to worry, that he would take care of you. Not only just take care of you, but that he would ADD all the things you need to the result of seeking first his kingdom. He also reminds you that tomorrow will have its own problems and troubles … all you need to do is focus on today’s :) Lord, I ask that as Lindsey does seek first your kingdom, that you would show up in her life each day to relieve some of the problems of each day. Let her feel your presence as you take care of her wherever she may be. And all the glory is yours. The glory all goes to you. I ask this in the name of Christ Jesus, King of kings. Amen (more…)
Give from your abundance?
Good Morning Heavenly Father. Thank you for healing my knees instantly 15 years ago. Thank you for keeping them healed all these many years. Thank you for letting this miracle be my foundation of thankfulness, where I try to thank you for healing my knees any time that I am going up or down stairs. And thank you for the scripture to use for today’s prayer for Lindsey:
And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing. And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury: For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living. (Mark 12:42-44)
Lord, here I am again. I’m here as usual on behalf of your daughter Lindsey. Yes, Lindsey, I am here and am praying for you. And today’s scripture is a hard one. We know that God delights in blessing each of us as we follow him and his ways. We know that he wants us to prosper. But at the same time, here we see Jesus taking note of someone who was giving all that she had and Jesus was honoring her before those he was speaking to. I don’t think giving everything is what Jesus is asking of us, or of you. But I think he is asking us to pay attention and to make sure that giving is a normal part of our daily lives. And so, Lindsey, I pray that you would continue looking for ways that you can bless those around you by giving of yourself, your time and even your resources. I pray that God would open opportunities for you and that he would clearly point them out to you. I pray that God would continue to be generous to you as you are generous to those around you. And we will give the glory to God. All the glory is his. I pray this in the name of Christ Jesus, King of kings. Amen (more…)
Jesus offers you rest!
Heavenly Father, good morning. Thank you for soap. Thank you for the means to clean ourselves and our clothes. Thank you for the example of how we can feel more refreshed after we are washed. And thank you for the scripture for today’s prayer for your daughter Lindsey:
[Jesus said:] Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. (Matthew 11:28-30)
Lord, I’m here again. I came to sit with you. I came to rest. I need your rest. It is one thing that I ask for quite often. And I now am asking for your rest for Lindsey. She seems to be in the spotlight one way or another constantly. She has so much to plan, so much to remember, so much to actually DO! I ask that you continue to surround her with people who can help her stay refreshed… refreshed in you. I ask that you nudge her to pause now and then to just sit with you. And then I ask that you let her feel your rest come upon her. And we will give you the glory. The glory is yours. I ask this all in the name of Christ Jesus, King of kings. Amen (more…)
The Lord’s Supper
Good morning Heavenly Father. Thank you for our country, our city, our community. Thank you for the many ways people can interact with each other. Thank you for the many opportunities to be kind to others throughout the day. And thank you for the scripture for today’s prayer for your daughter Lindsey:
And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit your of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom. (Matthew 26:26-29)
Lord, I’m here to lift up Lindsey again today (as usual). Yesterday we shared the scripture for the Lord’s prayer. Today we share the scripture for the Lord’s supper. We are reminded by Jesus’s words that he was soon to suffer immensely, be scourged and pierced and give his life for us, for forgiveness of our sins. We repent for our sins Lord. We turn from them and turn to you. We look forward to the day we drink with you in your Father’s kingdom. And we give the glory to God. All the glory is his. I pray this in the name and authority of Christ Jesus, King of kings. Amen (more…)
The Lord’s Prayer
Heavenly Father, good morning. Thank you for flowers! Thank you for the lupine flower that my friends talked about this morning. Thank you for how such a simple flower can be so majestic when seen in a group. Thank you for how the colors of that same flower can vary so greatly, yet the flower itself is solid in one color. Thank you for how grouped together the different colors go so well together! Perhaps this is an example of how differences can add even more to what individually was quite good! And thank you for the scripture for today’s prayer for your daughter Lindsey:
[Jesus said:] After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. (Matthew 6:9-13)
Lord, I’m here again. I came to sit with you this morning as usual. I’m here to lift up your daughter you love. Lindsey, today’s scripture reminds us of how Jesus prayed … prayed often and in many ways. But today’s scripture is often referred to as his model prayer. So we can pray it together now. We pray to our heavenly Father and honor his name. We ask for his will to be done right here, right now. We ask for him to continue to be our provider and to forgive us as we also remember that we too forgive others! And we ask for him to protect us from the evil in the world and give him all the glory. Yes, the glory goes to God. I pray this in the name of Christ Jesus, King of kings. Amen (more…)
Beware of focusing on the “stuff”, the “possessions”
Heavenly Father, good morning. Thank you for my mind and for the understanding that you bring to it. Thank you for bringing meaning to the words I read as I read your Word. And thank you for the scripture for today’s prayer for your daughter Lindsey:
And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. (Luke 12:15)
Lord, it’s me … I am here to sit with you again as I do every day. I’m here to pray for your daughter you love. Yes, Lindsey, today I pray a prayer close to my heart as I have learned that everything I own, everything I have, everything around me is all just stuff, and I try to hold on to it all very loosely, since it is all God’s anyway. And so I pray this for you too Lindsey, since you travel so many places and see so much “stuff”. I pray that you won’t begin to “want” everything you see. I pray that stuff you already have can sometimes be handed off to someone else. I pray that some of this “stuff” can be passed on to others around you, others you meet, others you might not even know yet. I pray that you would not become consumed with the “stuff” of this world, but that you would cling to God, that you would hold fast to Jesus. I pray that you would take care in your life. I pray that you would watch out and be on guard for any touch of greed that might try to slip into your way of thinking or your way of living. And I pray that the Lord would help you with this, that he would continue to be your comfort and your guide. And all the glory goes to God. The glory is all his. I pray this all in the name of Christ Jesus, King of kings. Amen (more…)
