The Lord Is Doing Great Things. Do You See Them?

Heavenly Father. What an amazing universe you created just for us! You could have splashed a few hundred (or even a few thousand) stars around the heavens for us to see at night – but you are bigger than that and far more extravagant! So you filled the heavens with billions of stars – likely more that we cannot see than that we can see! What a glorious gift for our nights! Thank you for showing us your glory in this way! And thank you for your daughter Lindsey and the scriptures you gave me for this prayer for her this day:

Fear not, O land; be glad and rejoice: for the Lord will do great things (Joel 2:21)

and one of my favorite passages that says “See what God has done!”

according to this time it shall be said of Jacob and of Israel, What hath God wrought! (Numbers 23:23b)

Lord, it is me again. I have come before you on behalf of Lindsey every day for a year now, and today my prayer for your daughter you love ends with scriptures that reminds us that you will do great things for her. We are reminded that you already have done great things for her. And so, Lindsey, I close one year of prayers with that reminder. I pray that each and every day you would always remember some of the great things that God has done for you. And I pray that each day you also would expect even more. God is a gracious and generous God, so be glad and rejoice, for he will continue to do great things for you. Why? Because he loves you! After all, you ARE his daughter! And so we now give all the glory to God. The glory is all to him. I pray this in the name and authority of Christ Jesus, King of kings. Amen (more…)

With People Watching, Your Actions Speak Loudly!

Heavenly Father, thank you for another day amidst your blessings and your glory. Thank you for blessings that don’t seem like blessings to us at the moment. Thank you for reminding me to not be concerned when I forget something (like the third sentence of this prayer) but DO be concerned with hardening my heart. Thank you for speaking to us, for holding us close, for never leaving us. Thank you for the godly people you had intersect with me on my journey. Thank you for your loving daughter whom I lift up to you this day in prayer with the scriptures you gave me:

First, an overview of how David was righteous always, except in the case of Bathsheba and Uriah the Hittite:

Because David did that which was right in the eyes of the Lord, and turned not aside from any thing that he commanded him all the days of his life, save only in the matter of Uriah the Hittite. (1 Kings 15:5)

But being righteous “most of the time” was not what God wants, as seen by how Nathan the prophet spoke to David in reference to his adulterous relations with Bathsheba and the killing of Uriah:

And the Lord sent Nathan unto David. And he came unto him, and said unto him,

There were two men in one city; the one rich, and the other poor. The rich man had exceeding many flocks and herds: But the poor man had nothing, save one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and nourished up: and it grew up together with him, and with his children; it did eat of his own meat, and drank of his own cup, and lay in his bosom, and was unto him as a daughter.

And there came a traveller unto the rich man, and he spared to take of his own flock and of his own herd, to dress for the wayfaring man that was come unto him; but took the poor man’s lamb, and dressed it for the man that was come to him.

And David’s anger was greatly kindled against the man; and he said to Nathan, As the Lord liveth, the man that hath done this thing shall surely die: And he shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity.

And Nathan said to David, Thou art the man. Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, I anointed thee king over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the hand of Saul; And I gave thee thy master’s house, and thy master’s wives into thy bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that had been too little, I would moreover have given unto thee such and such things. Wherefore hast thou despised the commandment of the Lord, to do evil in his sight? thou hast killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon.

Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thine house; because thou hast despised me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife.

Thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house, and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun. For thou didst it secretly: but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.

And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the Lord.

And Nathan said unto David, The Lord also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die. Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the Lord to blaspheme, the child also that is born unto thee shall surely die. (2 Samuel 12: 1-14)

Define blasphemy: The act of reviling, ridiculing, or being disrespectful or irreverent of, by words or conduct, God, religion, a religious doctrine, a religious icon, or anything considered sacred.

Lord, I’m here to begin a new prayer for your daughter Lindsey, who loves you very much. Lindsey, this is a difficult scripture to pray for you, but it seems like it is the one God gave me for this day. This scripture refers to prophet Nathan telling David that what he had done was bad, very bad! However, the very last sentence speaks of how his actions, while bad in themselves, were even worse because the others nations had watched what he had done and now, because of it, were ridiculing and reviling his God. And so I pray for you now Lindsey. God has gifted you with great talent and skill. He also has showered you with his favor day after day after day. I pray that in addition to all the talent, skill and favor that the Lord would grant you great wisdom and discernment so that you can always be a shining light to the world and never give anyone cause to revile or ridicule our God because of something you do. If even David, the man after God’s own heart can do such things, it seems that none of us can consider ourselves exempt from possibly behaving in an equally bad manner. I pray that God would protect you from the evil one who wants to destroy you. I pray that God would always surround you with godly people who will help you stay on solid ground. I pray that all you do will bring glory to God, for the glory all goes to him. All the glory is to God. I pray this in the name and authority of Christ Jesus, King of kings.  Amen

Psalm 18 in Metre

NOTE: All 150 psalms were translated into English in Metre by 1562, nearly 50 years before the King James Version of the Bible was published in 1611! The psalms were written as Hebrew poetry and were meant to be sung or read aloud.* However, translating poetry from one language to another typically loses much if not all of the poetic attributes! However, there were several groups of people who endeavored to translate the psalms into a type of poetry typical for the English language hundreds of years ago. If you have not yet encountered the psalms in metre (psalter), you are in for a treat. We read (and softly sung) all 150 psalms in a downtown coffeeshop this year using the Scottish Psalter. Since music is a significant part of you Lindsey, you may find yourself singing them with a tune you make up on the spot based on the rhythmic beat to the verses. I hope the prayer this day blesses you in this.

Heavenly Father. I glorify you and praise you. I look around at the beauty of snow, where just one snow flake is a masterpiece work of art. A man we now call Snowflake Bentley** spent years of his life, freezing and cold, just to catch a snowflake and then to photograph it. This amazing look at snow flakes has been collected into a sizable book, a gallery of beauty, a look at a tiny bit of the vast beauty you placed everywhere around us. Thank you for letting me see these bits of your beauty. And thank you for the Scripture which I am to use to pray over the daughter you delight in, whose beauty is a dim reflection of Christ:

Psalm 18 (my favorite psalm) from the Psalter of 1562 (read it aloud emphasizing every other syllable … you can even add intonation while you read it or even sing it!):

 1 O God, my strength and fortitude,
       of force I must love thee;
    Thou art my castle and defense
       in my necessity:

 2 My God, my rock, in whom I trust,
       the worker of my wealth;
    My refuge, buckler, and my shield,
       the horn of all my health.

 3 When I sing laud unto the Lord,
       most worthy to be served;
    Then from my foes I am right sure
       that I shall be preserved.

 4 The pangs of death did compass me,
       and bound me ev'ry where;
    The flowing waves of wickedness
       did put me in great fear.

 5 The sly and subtle snares of hell
       were round about me set;
    And for my life there was prepared
       a deadly trapping net.

 6 I thus beset with pain and grief,
       did pray to God for grace;
    And he forthwith heard my complaint
       out of his holy place.

 7 Such is his pow'r, that in his wrath
       he made the earth to quake.
    Yea, the foundation of the mount
       of Bashan for to shake:

 8 And from his nostrils went a smoke,
       when kindled was his ire,
    And from his month went burning coals
       of hot consuming fire.

 9 The Lord descended from above, and
       bowed the heav'ns most high;
    And underneath his feet he cast
       the darkness of the sky:

10 On Cherubs and on Cherubims
       full royally he rode,
    an on the wings of mighty winds
       came flying all abroad.

   The Second Part.

11 And like a den most dark he made
       his hid and secret place;
    With waters black and airy clouds
       encompassed he was.

12 At his bright presence did thick clouds
       in haste away retire;
    And in the stead thereof did come
       hail-stones and coals of fire.

13 The fiery darts and thunderbolts
       disperse them here and there;
    And with his frequent lightnings he
       doth put them in great fear.

14 When thou, O Lord, with great rebuke
       thy anger dost declare,
    The springs and the foundations of
       the world discovered are.

15 And from above the Lord sent down
       to fetch me from below,
    And plucked me out of waters great,
       that would me overflow:

16 And me delivered from my foes
       that sought me to enthrall;
    Yea, from such foes as were too strong
       for me to deal withal.

17 They did prevent me evermore
       in time of my great grief;
    But yet the Lord is my defense,
      my succor and relief.

18 He brought me forth in open place,
       that so I might be free;
    And kept me safe, because he had
       a favor unto me.

19  According to my innocence,
       so did he me regard;
    And to the cleanness of my hands
       he gave me my reward:

20 For that I walk-ed in his ways,
       and in his paths have trod,
    And not departed wickedly
       from him that is my God.

   The Third Part.

21 But evermore I have respect
       to his law and decree;
    His statutes and commandments I
       cast not away from me:

22 But pure and clean, and uncorrupt,
       appeared before his face,
   And did refrain from wickedness
       and sin in ev'ry case.

23 The Lord will therefore me reward,
       as I have done aright;
    As to the cleanness of my hands
       appearing in his sight.

24 For, Lord, with him that holy is
       wilt thou be holy too;
    And with the good and virtuous man
       thou wilt uprightly do:

25 And for the loving and elect
       thy favor wilt reserve;
    And thou wilt use the wicked men
       as wicked men deserve.

26 For thou dost save the simple folk,
       in trouble when they lie;
    And dost bring down the countenance
       of them that look full high.

27 The Lord will light my candle so,
       that it shall shine full bright;
    The Lord my God will make also
       my darkness to be light.

28 For by thy help an host of men
       discomfit. Lord, I shall;
    By thee I scale and overleap
       the strength of any wall.

29 Unspotted are the ways of God,
       his word is purely tried;
    He is a sure defense to such
       as in his faith abide.

30 For who is God, except the Lord !
       for other there is none:
    Or else who is omnipotent,
       saving our God alone.

   The Fourth Part.

31 The God that girdeth me with strength,
       is he that I do mean;
    That all the ways wherein I walk,
       did evermore keep clean:

32 That made my feet like to the harts'
       in swiftness of my pace,
    And for my safety brought me forth
       into an open place.

33 He did in order put my hands
       in battle for to fight;
    To break in sunder bars of brass
       he gave my arms the might.

34 Thou teachest me thy saving health,
       thy right hand is my tow'r;
    Thy love and gentleness also
       doth still increase my pow'r.

35 And under me thou makest plain
       the way where I should go;
    So that my feet shall never slip, ·
       nor wander to and fro:

36 And fiercely I pursue and take
       my foes that me annoyed,
    And from the field do not return
       till they be all destroyed.

37 So I suppress and wound my foes,
       that they can rise no more;
    For underneath my feet they fail,
       I wound them all so sore.

38 For thou hast girded me with strength
       unto the battle, and
    Thou wilt throw down my enemies
       that do against me stand.

39 Lord, thou hast given me the necks
       of all my enemies;
    That so I might destroy all those
       that up against me rise.

40 They called for help, but none gave ear,
       nor came to their relief;
    Yea, to the Lord they called for aid,
       yet heard he not their grief.

   The Fifth Part.

41 And still, like dust before the wind,
       I drive them under feet,
    And sweep them out like filthy dirt,
       that lieth in the street.

42 Thou keep'st me from seditious folk
       that still in strife are led;
    And thou dost of the heathen folk
       appoint me to be head.

43 A people strange, to me unknown,
       and yet they shall me serve;
    And at the first obey my word,
       whereas my own will swerve.

44 I shall be irksome to my own,
       they will not see my light;
    But wander wide out of the way,
       and hide them out of sight.

45 But blessed be the living Lord,
       most worthy of all praise:
    He is my rock and saving health,
       praised be he always.

46 For it is lie that gave me pow'r,
       reveng-ed for to be;
    And with his holy word subdued
       the people unto me.

47 And from my. foe delivered me,
       and set me over those
    That cruel and ungodly were,
       and up against me rose.

48 And for this cause, O Lord my God,
       to thee give thanks I shall;
    And sing out praises to thy Name,
       among the Gentiles all.

49  Deliv'rance great thou giv'st the king,
       and dost reserve in store
    Mercy for thine Anointed, and
       his seed for evermore.

Lord, I am here as usual to pray for Lindsey, your daughter you love, and today seemed like the day to present a psalm interpreted in metre over 450 years ago. Lindsey, I pray that encountering the psalms in metre will bring a whole new light to them for you. May the psalms resonate in your heart the way that the original Hebrew language psalms did centuries ago. I pray that the psalms in metre will excite and thrill you so much that you will want to sing them all as soon as you can (thus I am linking to the online version of them below). I pray that you may find singing the psalms a wonderful way to worship and praise the Lord. And all the glory is his. The glory is all his. I pray this in the name of Christ Jesus, King of kings. Amen

Psalm (of Len)

Heavenly Father. Thank you for each day that I get to spend walking with you. Thank you for this wonderful world that you created for us. Thank you for our eyes, a miracle in themselves and obvious evidence of your loving creation. Thank you for the book of photographs of snowflakes that included a CD with over 500 photos that I can load into my computer to see the intricate details of symmetry in each snowflake. Thank you for placing evidence of your creation all around us. Thank you for the beauty that you created and for bits of your glory that are there for all to see. It is my birthday today, and so I thank you for the many truths that I have incorporated into a double acrostic* psalm that I wrote myself (see if you can identify each truth!):

Psalm (of Len)

All mighty are You O Lord
   Awesome are the works of Your hands

Blessed is Your name in all the earth
   Beauty flows wherever You go

Caring is Your heart for all men
   Compassion is in Your eyes

Defender of the orphan and the widow
   Delighting over Your every child

Eternal God, creator of all things
   Encouraging those who trust in You

Fortress when we are weak
   Father of Lights, we praise Your holy name

Glory is before us everywhere we look
   Gracious are Your ways

Healer, helper, everything wonderful
   Holy, holy, holy – God of heaven and earth

I am, You say, and so it is
   Immanuel, God is with us this day

Joyful, just, glorious are You Lord
   Jesus, Your name we lift on high

Keeper of Your promises
   Kindness is ever on Your mind

Loving and laughing You listen to our stories
   Life and light are Your gifts always

Majestic are the heavens, created just for us
   Marvelous and amazing are Your deeds

Never forsaking us, You answer when we call
   New, You made us, when You called us Your own

Orchestrator of miracles, unending they seem
   Only good are Your plans for those who cling to You

Patiently You watch over us all the day and through the night
   Powerful, all powerful and wonderful You are

Quick to respond to our calls for Your help
   Quieting the storms with just a word

Refuge for the oppressed, shelter in times of need
   Reveal more of Your glory to us, disclose bits more this day

Surely our hope is in You O Lord
   Secure and safe are we on this journey with You

Teach us Your ways, show us Your truth
   Triumphant let us walk with You.

Until our last breath we praise Your name
   United in Christ, we encourage and support each other

Victory is ours, for we read the end of the book
   Visit with us, meet with us, carry us as needed

Walk with us, run with us, sit with us today
   Welcome, we welcome You. Come Lord, be near

Yesterday, today, tomorrow, unchanging in Your love
   Young or old, Your mercy flows o’er us

Zion is Your mountain, set us up high with You
   Zealous for Your holy name, we give the glory all to You.

For all mighty are You O Lord
   And awesome are the works of Your hands.

Lord, I am here to lift Lindsey up to you this day. She knows that you love her as your daughter and she loves you too. I pray that this psalm that I wrote might inspire her to write one of her own and even set it to music. I pray that we can praise you in this way. And I give you the glory. The glory is yours. I pray this all in the name of Christ Jesus, King of kings. Amen

* Acrostic: Many places in scriptures use acrostic verses in the original Hebrew language including: Lamentations chapter 1, Lamentations chapter 2, Lamentations chapter 3 (triple acrostic), Lamentations chapter 4, Proverb 31 verses 10-31, and psalms 25, 34, 37, 111, 112, 145 and especially psalm 119 which has an eight line acrostic!

Worldly pleasures and advantages may try to entice you … don’t consent to them!

Heavenly Father. Thank you for how extravagant you were in creating this world for us. You created many kinds of plants, not just one. You created many types of trees, not just one kind. You created many kinds of fish, not just one kind. You created many kinds of animals, not just one kind. And you called all of them GOOD. Then when you created man, You created him in your image … no two alike, but all declared to be VERY GOOD. Thank you for all this GOOD that surrounds us. Thank you for all the VERY GOOD that we meet today. Thank you for being a gracious, generous and glorious God. And thank you for your scriptures for my prayer for your daughter who bears a striking resemblance to You (in Your image!):

My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not. (Proverbs 1:10)

Define entice: attract or tempt by offering pleasure or advantage.

Lord, I’m here on behalf of Lindsey, your daughter you love. Lindsey, the scripture for today’s prayer is quite simple, but profound. Simple, because it is telling you something that you already know from experience over the past years. Profound because what you actually do has consequences. So I am praying for you today Lindsey. I am not praying that you never are tempted by the pleasures of the world. Rather, I am praying that every time worldly pleasures try to entice you that you would not be persuaded. I pray that any time situations are before you that offer you a way to take advantage of others to get ahead yourself that you will resist. I pray that God would increase your wisdom and your self control. I pray that you would stay so near to Jesus that these worldly temptations are not quite so tempting because you know the joy of the Lord from experience. You know that your heart can delight in the Lord. And so we can give the glory to God. The glory is all his. Glory. I pray this in the name and authority of Christ Jesus, King of kings. Amen (more…)

40 Things I Heard

It is Your Testimony and The Blood of Jesus

Good morning Heavenly Father. Thank you for truth. Thank you for revealing your truth to us. Thank you for Your Word. Thank you for your LIVING Word. Thank you for the excitement it brings me as I read it… as I see it all flow together… as it is my treasure or rather as it reminds me of the treasure that is in me. Thank you for being near. Thank you Lord. And thank you for the godly people you have set around me. And thank you for the scriptures to use for my prayer today for Lindsey:

And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death. Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time. (Revelation 12:10-12)

and

Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; And having an high priest over the house of God; Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. (Hebrews 10:19-22)

Lord, I am here on behalf of your daughter Lindsey. She has a testimony Lord, and she is not afraid to tell it. So, I pray for Lindsey. I pray that you would always have confidence to come before God with your requests. I pray that you would boldly draw near to Jesus. I pray that you are not even afraid to die for him. It is by your testimony and the blood of Jesus that the evil one is thrown down and overcome. But you need to stay alert, for he knows that his time is short and he wants to destroy all that he can. So I pray that each day you put on the full armor of God. I pray that each day you find time to walk and talk with God. And I pray that you always seek out godly people to help you when you need their help. And together we can give the glory to God. All the glory is his. Glory. I pray this in the name and authority of Christ Jesus, King of kings. Amen (more…)

Gain the Whole World but Lose Your Soul? Choose Wisely!

Good Morning Heavenly Father. Thank you for the air we breathe. Thank you for how refreshing a breath of fresh air can be. And thank you for the scripture to use for today’s prayer for your daughter Lindsey:

[Jesus speaking] And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it. For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels. (Mark 8:34-38)

Lord, I’m here. I’m here again as usual. I’m here on behalf of Lindsey, your daughter you love. Lindsey, this scripture is interesting how Jesus clearly lets us know that if we try to get ahead in this world while ignoring him, that he in turn will be ashamed of us when he comes again. So I pray that as you become more and more popular in the eyes of the world, that you will continue to give the credit and the glory to God. I pray that any time you face a choice of advancing in this world by ignoring Jesus that you will always make a good choice. I pray for extra wisdom for you Lindsey. I pray that you will always have good people around you to advise you when the world gets so very tempting. I pray that you would never be ashamed to tell people that you follow Jesus and center you life around him. And together we can give the glory to God. Glory! I pray this in the name and authority of Christ Jesus, King of kings. Amen (more…)

Celebrate because you understand God’s Word!

Hello Heavenly Father. Thank you for keeping my heart thankful. Thank you for helping me to see the many blessings that are poured on my family. Thank you for the many godly friends you surround me with. And thank you for the scripture to use for today’s prayer for your daughter Lindsey:

Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the Lord is your strength. So the Levites stilled all the people, saying, Hold your peace, for the day is holy; neither be ye grieved. And all the people went their way to eat, and to drink, and to send portions, and to make great mirth, because they had understood the words that were declared unto them. (Nehemiah 8:10-12)

Lord, I’m here on behalf of Lindsey, your daughter who loves you. Lindsey, today’s prayer is a joyful prayer, for God’s Word is telling you to not grieve but to go and celebrate because you understand the words that have been declared unto you in God’s Word! Be filled with the joy of the Lord which is your strength. I also pray that others will see your joy in how you celebrate and that you will have a chance to tell them it is because you understand the words! I pray that you can help them to understand God’s Word as well. And together all the glory goes to God. The glory is all his. I pray this in the name and authority of Christ Jesus, King of kings. Amen (more…)
